Material is offered whole — the grade the trade calls ISRI Elmo — or already shredded and de-cased as ISRI Shelmo, also known in the market as shredder pickings or "meatballs".
Grades and specification
• Whole mixed electric motors (ISRI Elmo): complete motors with housings, stators, rotors and shafts intact. Sold as-is, no sealed units.
• Shredded electric motors (ISRI Shelmo): mixed copper-bearing material from ferrous shredding, comprised of motors without cases. Under the ISRI specification this may contain up to 10% aluminium-wound material and may contain insulated copper harness wire, subject to agreement between buyer and seller; it must contain no free iron and no sealed units.
• Winding type: copper-wound and aluminium-wound motors price very differently. Aluminium-wound material is separated and quoted apart, or capped by percentage in the contract. State which you need.
• Size split: small and fractional-horsepower motors, and large industrial motors, recover copper at different rates and are normally quoted as separate lots rather than blended.
• Excluded in all grades: sealed hermetic refrigeration and AC compressor units (a different grade), free iron, oil and grease beyond trace, water, radioactive material, ordnance, and capacitors of unknown age.

What determines the price
Motors are priced off recoverable copper, not gross weight. The variables that move a quote are: copper recovery percentage as verified by sample teardown; copper-wound versus aluminium-wound ratio; sorted versus mixed lots; small versus large motors; the LME copper cash price on the day of offer; contamination by free iron, oil or attached steelwork; total tonnage; and freight to your discharge port. That is why there is no headline price on this page — a number published today would be wrong by next week. Supply terms
Available by 20ft container load; motor scrap is dense, so 20ft is normally the loading unit for weight rather than volume reasons. Loose-loaded or in bulk bags depending on grade and destination requirements. Third-party pre-shipment inspection and sample teardown at load port can be arranged on request, at buyer's account. Quoted per metric ton, FOB or CIF, against a written specification and a named discharge port.
