Used lead acid batteries are the single most recycled consumer product in the world and the primary feedstock for secondary lead smelting. We supply automotive and industrial ULAB to lead smelters and refiners, traded against the ISRI grade names the market actually contracts on: Rains for drained or dry intact lead batteries, Rink for whole intact batteries with electrolyte, and Rails for battery plates.
Regulatory position — read before enquiring
Used lead acid batteries are hazardous waste under the Basel Convention (Annex VIII, entry A1160: waste lead-acid batteries, whole or crushed). Transboundary movement requires prior informed consent, valid import and export permits, and a licensed smelter at destination. We will not quote against a destination where those permits are not in place, and we expect buyers to evidence their import licence and smelter authorisation before any contract is signed. This is not a formality — non-compliant ULAB shipments are detained, repatriated at the shipper's cost, and prosecuted.

What determines the price
ULAB is priced as a percentage of the LME lead cash price. The percentage moves with lead recovery per tonne of battery, whether batteries are drained or wet, the acid and plastic case content being carried as dead freight, the mix of automotive versus industrial units, permit and compliance cost on the route, and freight. Send us the grade, the monthly tonnage, the origin and the destination smelter and we will quote per metric ton.

Supply terms
Available by 20ft container load; ULAB is dense and 20ft is the loading unit for weight reasons. Palletised and shrink-wrapped or in acid-proof bulk bags as required by the route. Third-party pre-shipment inspection, and documentation including Basel notification and movement documents, arranged as part of every shipment.
